Nestled in the tranquil hills close to the enchanting town of Lucca, Macennere is a beautifully secluded stone house that has captivated the pages of "The World of Interiors" magazine with its detailed 14-page feature. This exquisite property, with ivy-adorned walls, offers a serene getaway that is ideal for those seeking peace and an appreciation for sophisticated interior design.
The house has been thoughtfully restored by its British decorator owner, who has committed to using only authentic regional materials, blending them seamlessly with stylish decor that accentuates the unique character of the Tuscan landscape. Inside, the villa showcases a blend of rustic charm and modern elegance, creating an inviting atmosphere that is both luxurious and homely.
Outside, the villa continues to impress with its well-maintained garden and two dining areas, one of which includes a barbecue setup perfect for al fresco dining. The centerpiece of the outdoor area is a striking "dark" swimming pool that stretches 14 meters, offering a refreshing escape under the Tuscan sun and adding to the villa’s allure.
The views from Macennere are truly breathtaking, spanning from the rugged Apennines to the lush plains of Lucca, making every moment at this hideaway a picturesque experience. Whether you're lounging by the pool or enjoying a meal outdoors, the scenic landscapes provide a perfect backdrop to relax and rejuvenate.
The 1,5 kilometres unmade road trough a forest leading to the house, is not suitable for cars with low suspensions.
Guests say:
‘The holiday home exceeded our expectations. We agreed that this was the most beautiful and lovingly furnished house we have stayed in. Everything styled down to the last detail, yet cosy. Individualised with all the kitchen utensils that are available when the owner lives there himself. The bedrooms are almost equally divided with lovely bathrooms. With its own vegetable garden for use and loving care by 2 gardeners and a cleaning lady. However, you should not be put off by the access road, which is a little time-consuming. This seclusion is of course also what makes it so special, as you feel as if you are in your own world. For big sightseeing tours, the journey is rather daunting, which was no problem for us...... slow down!!!’
‘The week in Macennere in autumn remains unforgettable for me. As soon as we arrived, we were surrounded by the very special atmosphere of the old stone house - the peace and solitude in the middle of the forest and the wonderful view of the Tuscan countryside. We started each day with a dip in the ‘dark pool’ - the cool water, the fresh autumn air, simply invigorating.
We spent the evenings in the spacious kitchen, which became our common meeting place. Every evening had its own flavour, as each of us was allowed to conjure up our favourite dish for the group. These cooking evenings were full of laughter, stories and, of course, delicious flavours that filled the kitchen.
But the highlight was the last evening. We decided to hike down the steep forest path to San Martino in Freddano. Once there, we treated ourselves to a well-earned beer in the small bar, which seemed like a meeting place for the whole village community. At the end, the locals invited us for a ‘spaghettata’ - simple spaghetti with fresh ingredients, yet full of flavour and warmth that you rarely experience. It was an evening that connected us with the warmth of the Tuscan people.
Macennere not only offered beautiful landscapes and relaxing moments, but also encounters and experiences that I won't soon forget.’
