The villa is situated on a hill above Punta Ala, the famous tourist locality in the heart of the Maremma area where the beaches and pinewoods are very popular among families with children.

Punta Ala is also the ideal destination for sailing enthusiasts with its well-equipped tourist port which, in the past, also hosted Luna Rossa, the historic boat which took part in the America's Cup in 2000.
Since Punta Ala is frequented by VIPs and wealthy visitors, there is always something to do in the evenings; it has excellent restaurants and the night clubs are open until the early hours.

The Golf Club Punta Ala is similarly famous: with its 18 hole golf course it is judged to be one of the best in Europe, not just from a technical point of view but also in terms of landscape, thanks to its spectacular position with the sea in front and the beautiful maquis shrubland behind.

The villa used to belong to Italo Balbo who, as the Air Force minister for the Kingdom of Italy, flew over his property and noticed that the shape of the coastal promontory was similar to that of an airplane wing, thus it was named Punta Ala (literally wing point).

The layout of the villa requires a certain number of stairs to connect the indoor areas but the presence of the lift/elevator means that this does not represent a problem.
